During one of our short fluff breaks (when the Fluffers bring us water, electrolytes, and salty snacks so we don’t die) Lefkow asked Lauren to design a calf tattoo for him of “Cthulhu in a suit, making the gesture of Baphomet”. 5 minutes later this is what she handed him. Tonight in the trailer park, she’ll be inking it. DPW’s got mad skillz, yo. #BM2014 #Resto #DPW #DPW2014 #tattoo #bodyart #cthulhu #baphomet (at Black Rock Desert)

St. Abby (aka Abby, aka Stabby) and Scribbles. Abby manages the DPW Sign Shop, as well as being one of Playa Restoration’s Scribes. The Scribes play a critical role in recording the movements of the line sweep teams, so we know that we’ve covered the entire city (and then some!) Scribbles is responsible for being cute and fluffy, and succeeds admirably at both. #BM2014 #Resto (at Black Rock Desert)

Another seemingly impossible find that “bonged” right out at me: a 1” piece of clear plastic rod, maybe .5 mm in diameter. I’m a #MOOP divvy! #BM2014 #Resto #Lovejoy #MOOPjournal (at Black Rock Desert)

Late in the day, in the magic hour, I spotted my third #occlupanid of the season, a shy Palpatophora gracilis, in the process of burrowing out of the view of my lens. Ah! Truly the Black Rock Desert is a naturalist’s wonderland. #BM2014 #Resto #fauna #occlupanid (at Black Rock Desert)

Due to it’s remarkable natural camouflage, I nearly overlooked this rare species of occlupanid, the P. Manes, or “Ghost Closure”. As the P. Manes occlupanid matures, its exoskeleton turns progressively more transparent, eventually rendering the adult P. Manes nearly entirely invisible. If it weren’t for the dorsal flushing on this specimen (likely a remnant from a recent mating season) I’d never have spotted it. Again, nature amazes. What an incredible organism! #BM2014 #Resto #fauna #occlupanid (at Black Rock Desert)

Ride That Pony is one of Playa Restoration’s three line bosses this year. Line bosses are responsible for making sure that a crew of 30+ line sweepers all line up in the right place, walk in the right direction, and continue walking in the right direction. Sound easy? Consider that they’re trying to accomplish this feat in the middle of a now-entirely featureless desert, under the hot sun, without any shade, and that BRC’s blocks aren’t rectangles, but arcs. Good luck. Needless to say, bring a line boss involves a lot of (friendly, but necessary) yelling. #BM2014 #Resto (at Black Rock Desert)
